About the brand  Rolex is a Swiss luxury watch company that has a 116-year history of innovation in both marketing and precision engineering. The company was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London. The name Rolex was inspired by Wilsdorf while he was riding on a double-decker bus, as it was a unique combination of letters that could be easily pronounced in any language. In 1910, Rolex became the first wristwatch retailer to receive an independently ratified Chronometric Certification. In 1919, the company moved to Geneva due to a 33% tax on custom imports in England. In 1944, Wilsdorf founded the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation after the passing of his wife Florence. The foundation works as a private family trust and donates proceeds from Wilsdorf's shares in the company to different charitable causes. The watch The Rolex GMT-Master wristwatch was originally designed in collaboration with the Pan American Airways and issued by the airline to their crews on long-haul flights. (GMT in the name stands for Greenwich Mean Time, which was later replaced by Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), though the watch kept its name). The original GMT Master watch has a 24-hour display fourth hand complication directly linked to and displaying the same time zone as the standard 12-hour hand. This GMT hand enabled the crews to set the watch to GMT or another time zone, and, using the rotatable 24-hour scale bezel, set to the correct offset, a second time zone could be read. GMT or UTC is the time zone that is required for all aviation planning, weather forecasts, schedules and other paperwork. Wire transfer payments are eligible for a 3% discount on all of our watches.  About the brand  In 1983, after Blancpain's brush with death caused by the quartz crisis, the company name was purchased by Jean-Claude Biver – The president of Louis Vuitton's watchmaking division – and Jacques Piguet, the son of Fréderic Piguet and the director of Piguet's movement manufacturer. This business move, along with the company's aim to revive mechanical watchmaking after the crisis, was the beginning of the Blancpain revival. Blancpain decided to re-introduce some of its famed complications instead of reducing costs to try and save the company. And we're all luckier for it because we got beauties like this Flyback Chronograph out of it. About the Flyback Leman The Blancpain Flyback features a beautifully designed 38 millimeter case in rose gold. The case is in excellent condition. It shows off a gorgeous stepped bezel and short, thick lugs, giving it a fantastic wearing profile. The watch includes a screw down caseback and is worn on a Blancpain leather strap with signed Blancpain clasp. The dial is multilayered and eccentric. The black surface picks up light in a wide variety of ways depending on the section you are looking at due to multiple levels of finishing. The dial features beautifully patinated, long and broad tritium filled hands to match wide set numerals, which have also begun to stunningly age. The present watch belongs to a reference that lived concomitantly: the 25636 which shares the same aesthetic but was mainly produced with skeleton dials. This beauty is proposing for many the best of most worlds: a true complication encased in a design masterpiece 39mm sports watch made of…platinum! Production years ranged from 1983 until 1993 but this reference was offered for sales between 1986 until 1996. Out of a total production of 264 pieces only in all metal combined, only 126 were ever made in yellow gold. (34 in platinum, 52 in steel, 49 two-toned and 3 pink gold). The presented timepiece was most probably a Christmas gift as it was purchased on December 16th, 1993! Dial: Skeleton with golden subregisters and MK1 lettering.
